Common note mistakes are: • Not recognizing the relative sizes of the components of the universe • Not recognizing Earth as a planet in the Milky Way galaxy • Misinterpreting the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram by not reading the axis labels correctly • Thinking that the Sun is the largest and hottest type of star • Thinking that the Sun is further away from Earth than other stars • Thinking that the Sun is not located in the Milky Way galaxy • Thinking that the Sun is the center of the Milky Way or universe and not the center of our solar system • Not understanding the relative distances in space and the amount of time it takes for waves to travel • Not understanding that electromagnetic waves are transverse waves, not longitudinal waves • Thinking that sound can travel in space and not understanding that the lack of matter in space prevents sound from traveling
