Overview: Grades K-2 Students view an open-ended picture with many different visuals and share what they notice to support young mathematicians to blend math with everyday life. **Modify this activity for 3rd-5th grades by using pictures with arrays. Encourage conversations that focus on multiplication and division. (Example: Show a picture of 44 beans and 5 cups. Ask how many beans would go into each cup and how many beans would be left if they put an equal number in each cup.) How to use this activity: 1. Students view the picture in this activity to create a math story. 2. Once students select a part of the picture to describe mathematically, they use the microphone to create and tell their own math story. Materials: Teachers can take personal photos or use stock images that represent real world scenarios for students to observe and share what they notice.
