When the suffix begins with a consonant, it is labeled as a consonant suffix. When a suffix begins with a vowel, it is labeled as a vowel suffix. Knowing this helps us reliably spell the new word when adding a suffix. When adding a vowel suffix to a base/root word that ends in silent e, DROP the e and attach the suffix. 1. shining 2. blamed 3. cuter 4. nibbling 5. cutest 6. peddled 7. server 8. closest 9. flaky 10. slimy
