This activity is lesson 6 in Pat Cunningham's Making Words program. In this lesson, students make words, sort words and transfer word patterns to new spelling. The letters in the final word ~ grand ~ allow students practice with phonics patterns -ad, -an, -ag -and. Students transfer their knowledge of consonant letter sounds at the beginning of a new words. My students will complete this, initially, at home after we've done it in class with manipulatives. My goal is to give students practice with a digital activity that mimics what/how we are learning in person, and to demonstrate for parents the kind of activity that helps with spelling. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2.D Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular words. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.2.E Spell untaught words phonetically, drawing on phonemic awareness and spelling conventions.
