Visual text features for Non Fiction Texts This activity is intended to be completed over a series of lessons/days. Here is one way to use this resource, feel free to change it up and use how you would like though! ALso make sure to check out my other nonfiction activities that relate to this one. Choose any non fiction text that your class would be interested in. Make sure that it has a diagram, graph, photographs and a life cycle. This is your example I recommend having a wide variety of Non Fiction texts for students to look through to find the relevant pages independently. As an extension students could record themselves reading the contents of any of these pages or explain how the feature helps us read non fiction texts. Day 1 - As a class identify what the job of a diagram is: visuals make it easier to understand information. REading a diagram is quick and to the point. It must have a title, labels and a clear image. Students then complete page one of this activity. Day 2 - Students create a diagram of their own. They could do this by drawing their own image and writing lables then photographing it for seesaw. Or the could use the Reflect in Seesaw extension to gram an image from another web page and add labels and voice recordings. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/reflect-in-seesaw-extensi/lhgiigkiddoalobhmmcpdhddlccindjj?gclid=CjwKCAjwjuqDBhAGEiwAdX2cj8oyoA47wdXAbuh75ZTBo6i1BdFxbkRKcnUUg2cQgVnaRl9WdY3VvBoCvmwQAvD_BwE Day 3 - Discuss why a life cycle is a useful image. The purpose is to share information in a way that is easier to understand and quick to read. A life cycle must go in a complete cycle, have a heading and lables. Day 4 - Discuss why graphs can be useful and what their purpose is. Sharing numerical information in a visual way is easier to read. Day 5 - Photographs - photographs are real images (maybe discuss photoshopping) a picture is worth a 1000 words. Eye catching and informative. Made using Canva Premium
