Marley is the activist behind the #1000BlackGirlBooks twitter phenomenon. The hashtag was born out of the avid reader's frustration that she couldn't find any stories where the main characters looked like her. The book drive resulted in more than 11,000 books catalogued with black female protagonists, and counting. Today you are going to learn more about Marley and her campaign. Begin by clicking the picture of Marley to view a video about her and her movement. After you are done watching the video, click the add. Marley started her movement to have characters in books she could identify with. Today, I'd like to hear about a character you identify with from a book. If you do not have one, I'd like to know what kind of character you think you'd like to read about - we may just be able to find you a book with a character like that! Use the :text: tool to answer the questions. Use the :draw: or paste a picture of a character you identify with in the picture frame. When you're done, click the check
