Grades: 2nd Grade, Kindergarten, 1st Grade
Subjects: Character Building, Art, Social Studies

Student Instructions

In response to heightened anti-Asian violence across the nation, Ms. Sammay reminds us of the importance of the Filipino phrase 'lakas ng loob', or "inner strength," in these times of much needed embodied solidarity. And because this work cannot happen alone - she's invited some friends from the community to contribute their voices and special gifts for this collaborative video. 1. Click add to start and open the template. 2. Click on the link to watch the video and dance along with Ms. Sammay and her friends. 3. What connections can you make between the video and your own life? Share your thoughts in your dance journal using the drawing, video, photo, or voice tools. 4. On the third page, think about what inner strength means to you and how if feels in your body. Show this by drawing or photo a picture or recording a video of yourself and adding it to your dance journal. 5. On the last page, think about what changes in attitude, thinking or actions are suggested by the video, either for you or others? How can you demonstrate courage, strength, and solidarity at school? Add your response in your dance journal using any tools you like drawing, video, photo, voice.
