Student Instructions
What do you prefer - repeated patterns or free flowing designs?
Let's experiment, create and make some discoveries in art.
This activity should take you around 45 minutes to complete.
You will create and compare 2 different types of Zentangle Designs and decide what style you prefer. This is a social sciences experiment. Upload a photo of your designs on Page 1 (see
), complete the reflection on Page 2. An example is on Page 3.
RESEARCH QUESTION: Do students find it more calming to create geometric or organic zentangle designs?
HYPOTHESIS: More students prefer geometric designs because they are repetitive and predictable making them easier to draw, creating a more calming effect. (Do you agree?)
VARIABLES: Choice of drawing materials, line, shape, space and colour to complete zentangle design.
MATERIALS: Paper, drawing tools, ruler
PROCEDURE: (see video and examples in activity response template). Repeat the experiment -
draw at least 2 geometric zentangles & 2 organic zentangle designs as shown in the
SAFETY: Becoming so relaxed you fall asleep while drawing and bang your head on the table!
RESULTS: Complete this survey when your zentangles are done
