Past and Present Tense

Grades: 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade, 4th Grade
Subjects: Multilingual Learners, English Language Arts, Writing

Student Instructions

In this activity you will practice using present tense and past tense verbs. We use past tense when something has already happened. In each sentence, you have been given the root verb in brackets. Use it to write the present tense verb with the label tool. Then, use the label tool to rewrite the whole sentence in past tense. Hint - write as if it has already happened. Some past tense verbs can be made by adding -ed to the root verb, but some use a new (or changed) word. The ones that need a new word are marked with ***. When you have finished, use the mic tool to record yourself reading the sentences on each page.

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity practices simple past tense and present tense from a root verb. Both regular and irregular past tense verbs are used.
