Trial 1: What happened: The height of our sand started at 6 cm before we placed out erosion protection prototype in place. After 5 mins of waves, the height of the sand was down to 4 cm. That means there was 2 cm of erosion. What went well: We only hd 2 cm of erosion, another group had 4 cm of erosion. All of our materials stayed where they were supposed to. We did not change the scenery of the beach so people would not be inconvenienced. What could work better? The foundation of our prototype came apart. The pebbles spread out and got mixed in with the sand. We did not think it would spread this far. We would like to reinforce the foundation to make it stronger. If the foundation had held together we think there would have been less erosion. How could you change or improve your prototype? We have decided not to use the mesh cloth. We think that the water caught in it and caused our foundation of pebbles to fall. We are also going to add 2 craft sticks near the foundation to add support to the foundation. We only have enough money for craft sticks, we can not afford any more pebbles.
