Grades: 1st Grade, Kindergarten, Pre-K
Subjects: Special Education, Math

Student Instructions

1. Click on the add button. 2. Use the move tool to move the blue "row reader" so it's only showing you the top row (calf, piglet, calf, piglet). 3. Say the pattern out loud, then use the move tool and the animals at the right to complete the pattern. 4. Move move the blue "row reader" to the next row and repeat step 3 until you've completed all 4 patterns. 5. Do both of the first two pages. The third page is an extension to this activity. 6. Click on the green check to add to your journal. Simplify: * Do only the first page (abab patterns). * You say the patterns and/or help your child (hand-over-hand) move the animals to complete the patterns. * If your child is not ready to pattern, you can use this as a language activity and talk about the pictures. Examples: "Can you touch the pig/piglet?" or you touch it and say "Look, I see a chicken/chick" etc. Extend: * On the third page, let your child create and complete their own patterns, using the items at the right. * You create patterns on the third page and have your child complete them. * Have them create a pattern for you to complete and teach you or someone else how to do it. Learning Opportunities: Math 3 yr.2.5: Identify simple patterns in the environment and begin to duplicate and extend simple patterns (for example, ababab). Math 4 yr.2.5: Duplicate, extend, and create simple patterns (for example, ababab).
