Student Instructions

Hi artists! I would like to share the work of local Chicago artist, Hebru Brantley. Just like many artists, Brantley is influenced and inspired by his childhood experiences, growing up in a city. Throughout his work, he has a superhero theme which consists of two characters - Flyboy and Lil Mama. You will create a new superhero of your own which will connect you and your past experiences to the hero's attributes. (For example: If you love cats, maybe you are a "cat superhero" with animal-like abilities. If you are a soccer player, maybe you have a "super kick" power. For me, I designed myself as an "Art Superhero" where whatever I draw would come to life. Take your time with a good concept and of course, have fun with this!) 1. Watch the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yCk5q_tO6U 2. Come up with a superhero idea that relates with your own strengths. OPTIONS: 1. Start with pencil in your sketchbook. 2. Design your superhero using an art app on your iPad. (Art Studio, Autodesk Sketchbook, etc.) 3. Take a photo of yourself and add it as a layer on an art app. Add superhero details to an overlaying layer. Remember: You will have time to finish your superhero next week for part 2. Just make sure to share your progress with your art teacher on Seesaw. If you do finish early, you will have more options to work on for next week. (Possible sidekick? Setting/Background?) Have fun! Mr. Belonio
