Student Instructions

As writers we know that the first step in writing a new words is saying the word and segmenting it. This is when we "chop" the word up, tap it out, pop it out, etc. Once we have segmented a words we take it sound by sound, isolating the sound then spelling it the best that we can. Next, it's important to check our work! We do this by blending the sounds back together to make sure we included all of the sounds we heard. To warm up double click the link link to practice segmenting with Sounder & Friends (this is a great resource to give your kindergator additional practice with phonemic awareness skills). add 1. Look at the picture and say the word. If you're not sure what the picture is showing audio tap to listen 2. Tap out the sounds using the dots to help (segment the word) 3. Take it one sound at a time. Say the sound, spell the sound with pencil or label then repeat 4. Check your work by blending the sounds together to read the word 5. pages Go to page 2 and repeat! Remember, all of these words will include our new /oo/ sound!
