Student Instructions

Make sure to grab your independent reading book. 1. Tap add Add Response. 2. Read page 1 to remind yourself how to use context clues while reading to help determine the meaning of unknown words. 3. As you are reading, find a page that has a word that you are unfamiliar with. 3. Use the photo photo tool to take a picture of the page in your book with the unfamiliar word. 4. Use the highlighter highlighter to highlight the word. 5. Use the mic mic to share what you think this new word means. 6. Tap the check green check to submit.

Grades 3-5 Overview: Students use context clues from their text to determine the meaning of an unknown word. Students use the photo tool to take a picture of a page in their book, highlight an unknown word in Seesaw, and then use the mic to share how they use context clues to determine the meaning of the word. This gives teachers insight into students thought process. This Activity can be completed during centers, stations, rotations, or independent work time. How to Use This Activity: Assign this Activity after you have taught students how to use context clues to determine meaning. Schedule this Activity to be assigned to students during their rotation or independent work time. Assign this Activity as often as you would like students to be practicing context clues skills.
