Student Instructions
1. Tap 2. Read each word. 3. Use tool and sort words into three categories: Short o, Long o and oddball 4. Use and tell what patterns you notice about the words in each group * Did you notice a pattern in the words that have Short o? * Did you notice a pattern in the words that have Long o? * Did you have words that were oddballs? What made them an oddball? 5. Challenges: A) Use to add more words to each category. B) Use to create your own sentences using the words in this sort. 6. When done tap and add it to your journal.
This sort has an added level of complexity as it asks the students to figure out the phonics pattern. This work is a good review of word families for short o and gradually introduce students to the relationship between long o and CVCe pattern.
