Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity focuses on reading aloud for fluency and answering questions that check comprehension and inference. Use the first page recording to listen for accuracy, expression, and smoothness. Pages 2–4 are auto-graded for specific reading comprehension skills. Pages 5 and 6 are open-ended and should be graded manually. Prep: students need access to the recording/drawing tools. For the paragraph question, a high-quality answer explains who the characters are, what happens at the river, and why the kite is special to Lena and Marco (uses two or more sentences). For the multimedia prompt, a strong response includes a clear picture or short video/drawing of the kite scene and a sentence or voice clip describing one detail from the story (where they were, how the kite moved). Mark open-ended responses as correct when the student shows relevant story details and clear thinking.
