Adding two-digit and three-digit numbers with exchanges

Grades: 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

You will be adding two-digit numbers and three-digit numbers with exchanges. You will need to use place value counters to represent what is happening when we exchange, then write it into the column method. TASK 1: Watch the video on the first slide to see an example that has been done for you. 1) Use move to drag the place value counters into the place value chart to represent each calculation 2) Use label, pen or pencil to write the calculation in columns. 3) Starting with the ones, add up each column. Remember to show what you have exchanged! TASK 2: These questions are slightly trickier and involve adding two three-digit numbers. Can you use what you did in Task 1 to work out how to solve the questions in Task 2? REMEMBER: if there are 10 or more counters in the column, you need to exchange (e.g. 10 ones would be exchanged for 1 ten; 10 tens would be exchanged for 1 hundred) You also need to complete at least 3 soundchecks on Times Tables Rock Stars https://play.ttrockstars.com
