Shadow Art (Using the Clues)

Grades: Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade
Subjects: Science, STEAM

Student Instructions

Students will select an item to use for their shadow art creation. They must place their object on the paper and use the light source to create the best shadow. Students will then trace the shadow. On page 1, they will take a picture of their traced shadow without any details. Then the children will begin to decorate the shadow tracing. When they do this, have them think about what their shadow tracings don’t show about the object that it belongs to. What details (patterns, colors, etc..) can they add to their shadow tracings to transform them or make them more realistic? On page 2, they will add another picture of their traced shadow after they have added helpful details that a shadow alone couldn't show! After they have added pictures to page 1 and 2 they can press the check to submit!
