Stories can be both "mirrors" and "windows" for us when we are reading! Sometimes a book can be a mirror because you can see yourself in the story or in the characters. Stories like this can help you feel like there are other people just like you in the world. Sometimes books can be a window because they can help you see into the lives of others who are different from you. Books can help you learn about different people, cultures, and places! It’s important to choose books that are mirrors AND windows. It can feel nice to read about characters who look and act just like you in a book. That’s a mirror. It is also nice to learn about different people in the world around you through a book. That is a window.
