Learning Intention: Make predictions and ask and answer questions to increase comprehension. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a fiction book by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan is an American author who originally started writing bed time stories for his son, Haley. He taught English and Social Studies in a school in San Francisco before working full time on his highly successful writing career. After reading or listening to the synopsis of the book, make a prediction. A prediction is a guess about what the book will be about. Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus' master bolt.
