18 March: Reading: Goal Setting

Grades: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade
Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

Grade 4 readers, now that we are starting to read fiction texts again, it is important to set a new reading goal! Look at the attached goal-setting sheet and pick one goal to work on. Next, stop & jot in your reading notebook or a blank notebook your goal and how you will reach your goal. An example is provided on the second page after the goal sheet of a goal-setting stop and jot. It is okay if you do not know how to do something now! You will learn about your goal and how to apply it to your reading in the upcoming weeks. Lesson outline: 30 minutes: 1. Read through the goals and pick one. 2. In your reading notebook (or a blank notebook), write your goal down and how you might work towards this goal (i.e. noticing the setting- I will work on and reach this goal by...). (5 minutes) 3. Independent read for 25 minutes (fiction or historical fiction). 4. Take a picture of your goal stop & jot and how you will work towards your goal. 5. Upload the picture to this Seesaw Activity.
