Overview: Grades 3-4 In this Activity students have to prove whether or not the sum of two two-digit numbers can equal 238. Students are encouraged to approach this problem with an open mind and an understanding that there is more than one way to solve this problem. Sharing student responses allows students to see the different ways that other students approached the problem. This allows students to think critically and develop a growth mindset in math. **Modify this activity for k-2 by changing the numbers to single digit numbers to ten. (Example: Can the sum of two numbers be 7?) How to use this activity: This Activity can be used for independent practice after a whole class lesson on algebraic thinking. Students can choose to use paper and pencil to solve the problem and then use the camera tool to capture their work in Seesaw. Materials: Paper and pencil Standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.D.8 CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.OA.A.3
