Long Vowel & Short Vowel Cookie Sort

Grades: 1st Grade, Kindergarten
Subjects: English Language Arts

Student Instructions

Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar? Cookie monster did! BUT he felt bad and brought back all the cookies and now we have another problem... The cookies are all mixed up! Decide who will be the cookie monster and the baker and work together to sort the cookies into the correct vowel sound jar. If the cookie has a picture of a word that the vowel says it's name like A, E, I, O, or U place the cookie in the long vowel jar. If the picture on the cookie has a vowel that makes its normal sound like /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, or /u/ then place it in the short vowel jar. When you both have sorted all of the pictures take a video of you and your partner reading the words from each jar.
