Today's lesson is about celebrating the New Year. People here and all of the world have different traditions the celebrate the new year. Does your family do something special every year to celebrate the New Year? The lesson also includes a story called "Shante Keys and the New Years Peas," written by Gail Piernas-Davenport. It is about a character named "Shante Keys" and how her family celebrates the New Year. For today's lesson you will need to a "found instrument" from your house. This could be two utensils (a fork or spoon), two pencils or sticks, or just your hands if you can't find something to use. In this video, you will learn from Ms. P, another music teacher: First, she will teach you about some traditions from some other places in the world Ms. P will also teach you pattern to go along with today's story. Repeat after her, using your "found instrument." She calls this her "recipe!" Then, Ms. P will read you the story! Listen to the story and perform the pattern when Ms. P asks for the "recipe!" For today's response, tell me if your family has a tradition (something special you do every year) to celebrate the New Year. If you don't have a special something, tell me about one that you learned from today's video! Have fun, Musicians!
