Student Instructions

How does a thermometer work?

1. Take the glass rod thermometer and observe the temperature of the room. Where does the red liquid stop on the scale? 2. Put the thermometer in the cold water for a few seconds. Observe what happens to the red liquid. 3. Rub your hands together for a few seconds until they are nice and warm, then hold the thermometer at the end, covering the glass bulb. Observe what happens to the red liquid. 4. Record a video of you and your group members explaining what is happening to the particles in the red liquid as it gets hotter and cooler.
