Sp1 W6 MATHS (exploring patterns that multiples create on 10dot circles)

Grades: 5th Grade, 4th Grade, 3rd Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

FIRST: Write a list of multiples from your favourite times table NEXT: Circle the ones digit in your favourite times table THEN: Plot the 1s digit numbers onto a circle joining each with a ruler/straight line FINALLY: Explore what shape you create, write the table number inside the circle and predict what table will make the same shape. Once, you have tried this for your favourite times table. FIRST: Predict which times-table might make the same pattern NEXT: Repeat the process above for another times table. THEN: Observe the pattern made and decide if you were correct. If the pattern is the same well done. But you must be able to explain what the rule is. Can you explain the rule is? If you don't recognise a rule YET.....try again. Try with other times tables until you recognise what times-tables make the same patterns as each other and can explain why. FINALLY: Explain what rule might exist.
