Subjects: Reading

Student Instructions

Schema is a word to describe our knowledge and experiences. Infer is an assumption we make based on our schema. When we infer while reading, we combine our schema with clues in the story to infer something. Read this passage from The Stranger by Chris Van Allsburg. Find evidence in the text to support the following inferences: 1. The farmer was a caring man. 2. The man lying in the middle of the road is probably hurt or confused. Click on the template. Use the "Draw" feature to underline which words or phrases support each inference. Label #1 and #2.
