Grades: 3rd Grade, 4th Grade
Subjects: Art

Student Instructions

Materials Needed: Paper and pencil (black fine liner if available, but not essential) The focus and learning intention for this activity is line, shape, pattern and contrast 1. Choose a favourite animal to observe and draw. This could be a family pet or involve researching an animal on the internet to draw. 2.Research and experiment with lots of different shapes and patterns. Try drawing a variety of lines and shapes with your pencil on scraps of paper before you start adding them to your animal. 3.Draw your animal! Closely observe and draw what you see, don’t just draw what you think is there, keep looking and keep drawing. 4.When you are happy with the outline of your animal, start drawing shapes and patterns within the animals. Make sure to use a variety of lines and shapes. For examples, zigzags, thin lines, thick lines, some shapes shaded in. This is an activity that takes time, so please do not rush! Most of all have lots of fun! I have added some examples from previous student work to help guide you. We cannot wait for you to upload your own examples so that we can see them! Ms. Weldon
