Creating Parabolic Curves using Straight Lines

Grades: 8th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

The basic concept of creating a parabolic curve is by connecting 2 equally spaced points (1 from y-axis and 1 from x-axis) to produce a straight line. The connecting lines will create the compact curve pattern. Step 1 - Make a digital copy/print the template from Photo 1 Step 2 - Using a straight ruler, connect 1 from y-axis to 1 from x-axis. 2 with 2, 3 with 3 and so on. Step 3 - Once completed, you will have your first parabolic curve ;) Step 4 - Repeat steps 1 to 2 for the other three corners. Step 5 - Create your own parabolic curves pattern. Please search for any pattern online and challenge yourself to create it!
