Grades: 1st Grade
Subjects: Science

Student Instructions

1.P.1: Understand how forces (pushes or pulls) affect the motion of an object. 1.P.1.3 Predict the effect of a given force on the motion of an object, including balanced forces. Learning Target: Students will explore and make predictions about the effects of force and motion by creating models of different shapes/sizes of parachutes. 1. Click on the link and watch the video about Parachutes and Force. 2. Return to seesaw and gather materials to make two DIY (DO IT YOURSELF) parachutes. You will make two parachutes with materials you have at home. You can use the following items: Plastic Grocery Bags or Coffee Filters, String/Yarn/Pipe Cleaners and a toy action figure or doll ( should be different sizes). 3. After making your parachutes, head outside and test out your parachutes. Observe their motion and force (pull) by dropping the parachutes above your head. 4. Take a photo of one of your parachutes. 5. mic Record what you noticed and what you still wonder? 6. Click check to submit your work.
