Area of a Composite Figure

Grades: 3rd Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

1. Begin by creating your own composite figure (multiple rectangles put together) using the square inch tiles. Don't make it too big because you are demonstrating your ability to find the area not to calculate large numbers. 2. When your figure is ready, tap the add button. 3. Take a photo of your figure. 4. Use the label tool to label the side lengths. 5. Next, use the drawing and label tools to show how you will find the area of the figure. (Two strategies: divide the figure into multiple rectangles and add the areas together, or find the area of the larger figure and subtract the rectangle taken out.) 6. Use the rec to explain your thinking. 7. Tap the check when you have checked your work and are ready to turn it in.
