💭How does matter change states? 💭How can a solid become a liquid? 💭How can a liquid become a solid? 👩‍🔬Let's explore these questions with a simple at home (or in school) experiment. *grownup supervision required* 📺Some help from Annie & Moby: https://www.youtube.com/embed/cdP10a0v_IA ✔Your teacher and family will help decide which version of the experiment you will try below. 👍Tip: soak your crayons in warm water a few minutes to help the paper pop off! 🏡At home (oven version): https://drive.google.com/file/d/12l4l03K2d9zL0-Jb9nyAZamiyXV3hZzn/view?usp=sharing 🏫At home or school (InstantPot version): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xko19g9SiiKX_fckCVFHe_jSdhlUsTef/view?usp=sharing Use your seesaw Seesaw tools to share photo photos or video video of what you saw, heard, or even smelled during the experience, and explain what happened- how matter changed states! If using photo photos, be sure to label label glowpen the states of matter you observed in your pictures.

A. Jimerson @Super2ndsMrsJ #SeesawAmbassador When I was a kid, my mom made "rainbow pies" with my younger brother and I on a rainy day using foil pie pans, our oven, and all the crayons my brother had mischievously broken that summer. We were amazed she could find a way to turn crayons we might have trashed into colorful new treasure! In 2020-2021 while going back and forth Zooming with my students as so many of us did, I challenged myself to find new ways to teach our hands-on math and science unit about matter. This became one of those illustrations, but several of my families actually did it together and shared in their journals their results! I knew this year I had to try to find a safe way to do it with my students in-person. Hello, Instant Pot!! :D I used the individual cupcake silicone molds from/for the Instant Pot and the IP silicone trivet to easily set them in and take them out. We have a set of 12, but only 8 fit at a time. Michael's sells silicone molds you can use in the oven but I couldn't find ones to fit the IP so I used the cups instead. You can also use foil pie pans or metal muffin tins (spray first) for a traditional oven. You can use the 2 pdfs included to make this an ELA lesson about functional text too! Have fun- and tag me on Twitter if you try it out. I'd love to see your results!! Have fun! Thank you for not resubmitting to the District / Community libraries.
