1. This week you will sort syllables which are parts of words. 2. For example, the 2 syllable word jumbo can be divided into jum*bo. The O in bo has a long sound because the syllable ends in the vowel O. This kind of syllable is called an OPEN SYLLABLE. The word member can be divided into mem*ber. The syllable mem has a short vowel sound because the syllable ends in a consonant. It is a CLOSED SYLLABLE because the syllable ends in the consonant m. 3. Click add Use the move tool to drag the syllables to the correct column, either long vowel OPEN syllables, or short vowel sound CLOSED syllables. 4. Click check to turn in your work.
