When measuring with a ruler, it is important to be accurate. Accuracy is the ability to make a measurement that is as close to the actual value as possible. Below are some rules for measuring length with accuracy: • Align the object being measured with the 0 on the ruler. • Make sure the ruler is flush (straight line) with your object. Hold it in place. Precision is the ability to consistently repeat a measurement and get the same answer. Below is the rule for measuring with precision: • Measure two times and get the same answer Hands-on Activity 1. Take a picture of the marker with the ruler. Your picture must clearly show the object, the ruler, and the measurement. Follow all of the rules for measuring with accuracy and precision.
