Long A & Short A Picture Sort

Grades: 1st Grade, Kindergarten
Subjects: English Language Arts

Student Instructions

Take your piece of construction paper and draw a line down the middle. Cut out and use a glue stick to place the Long A "cake" card on one side, and the Short A "bat" card on the other. After you cut out all of the pictures sort and glue them by the sound the "a" makes. If it says its name or its long vowel sound like in the word c-a-k-e place it on that side. If it says its normal letter sound or short sound like in the word b-a-t place it on that side. When your page is complete take picture of it and record yourself tracking as your read down each side of the page.
