Student Instructions
1. Work with your group to plan, photograph, and explain your SPIKE coded build. 2. Follow the photo and recording tips so your pictures and explanations are clear. 3. Use the partner planning page to decide roles and what to show. 4. Submit a group photo or optional drawing, then record a short screen explanation of your code and choices. 5. After you submit, compare your work to the rubric to see how well you explained your thinking.
Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity guides groups to document and explain their LEGO SPIKE coded builds. Students plan with partners, take clear photos, and record a brief screen-and-voice explanation of their code and design choices. Prepare classroom tablets or cameras and ensure students know basic photo framing (lighting, close-up of moving parts, steady hands). Assign groups and remind students to share roles: photographer, builder, coder, and speaker. For each open-ended response, a high-quality answer: clearly shows the build in photos, explains what the main code does and why, names at least one STEM idea used (like gears, sensors, or simple loops), and reflects on something the group would change next time. A correct/high-quality answer may be simple (short, clear explanation with a good photo) or more detailed (diagram, step-by-step code explanation). Teachers can use a simple manual grading rubric (correct / incorrect) based on whether the student met these points and showed collaboration.
