Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
This activity uses a short, age-appropriate passage about the ocean to build reading fluency and comprehension. Start by having students listen to a model read-aloud, then have them record their own ReadingFluency passage. Use the comprehension pages to check understanding and the open-ended pages for creative expression. Minimal prep needed: a device for recording and drawing tools if students will draw. For the paragraph open-ended question, high-quality answers explain why the ocean matters and use at least one detail from the passage (like giving us air or providing homes). For the multimedia task, strong responses show clear steps: a drawing or photo of ocean life and a short voice or video explanation connecting the image to the passage. Score open-ended answers as correct when students give a clear reason and reference to the text; mark incorrect if answers are off-topic or show no connection to the passage.
