Look at the vases from modern ceramicists: Grayson Perry (British) Cody-Hoyt (American) Then look at the ancient Roman vases. What do you notice about the vases and the way they have been decorated? What is the same ? What is different? Do you think they were made for a practical purpose (functionality) or do you think they were made to look for an aesthetic purpose (their looks)? Why do you think this? Why do you think the designers made the choices they did? NEXT: decide whether the pot you will make will be designed for functionality or aesthetics. Then use your sketchbooks to decide what shape you craft your vase into and what design you will apply to the finished piece.
