Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This activity uses a short animated adaptation of Aesop's fable to practice 2nd-grade reading comprehension skills: asking and answering questions, retelling key details, and identifying the lesson. Use the video page to show the film. Then have students complete the Think About It reflection, three short drag-and-drop comprehension checks, a creative Show It project, and a quick feelings poll. Prepare a device with camera and microphone access for students to record; paper and crayons are optional for drawing responses. For the open-ended Think About It response: a high-quality answer names one clear detail learned from the video (for example, "The ants gathered food for winter") and asks a specific question about the story (for example, "Will the grasshopper always help next winter?"). For the Show It creative response: a strong submission shows the sequence of events (summer work → winter blizzard → asking for help → learning lesson) using drawing, a brief video, or a recorded explanation. Teachers should grade open responses manually as correct or incorrect based on whether students include clear story detail(s) and a relevant question or demonstration of the lesson.
