Rectangles - Counting Vertices and Sides

Grades: Kindergarten, Pre-K
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

In this activity, you will practice counting vertices and sides to help you describe the attributes of a shape and to identify what that shape is! First, watch the video on page 1 where you will see how Ms. Elaine is doing it. Then, go to page 2. Turn on mic first Use the pen to make dots on the vertices - count the vertices out loud! Use the pre-made lines to help you count the sides or use the pen to draw the lines - count the sides out loud! Stop the mic by tapping the check Go to page 3 and repeat the same steps Supporting adults: You can support your child by using the correct terms such as vertices, vertex, straight sides. Ask you child "How many vertices did you count?" and "How many straight sides did you count?" and "If the shape has xx vertices and xx straight sides, what shape is it?" Learning Intentions: To begin to identify and describe 2D shapes To begin to use appropriate mathematical terms to describe 2D shapes.
