Consider creating an anchor with the class as a whole group. Create a pile of cards with letters, words, and sentences. Call on students to choose a card and glue or tap it onto the correct column of a three column chart drawn on chart paper. In small group, have students use two fingers to frame just a letter, word, or sentence in a book or poem. ELL or students needing extra support could work with sorting just letters and words into two piles. Enrichment could include having children point and read words around the classroom or make up a sentence for a word on one of the cards.
