Sleds on Boston Commons: Persuasive Writing

Grades: 4th Grade
Subjects: History, English Language Arts, Writing

Student Instructions

Imagine that you are Henry. You are just finding out, on your birthday, that you are not allowed to sled on the Boston Commons because the soldiers have taken over. You are given one chance to persuade General Gage to let you and your friends sled in your usual spot. What are you going to say? *Write (type) a letter to the general expressing your opinion and asking him that question. Use the OREO format and persuasive details in your letter to support your opinion. Correct letter format should also be used: date, greeting, body, and closing. (see back for an example of letter format)
