Grandma's Patchwork Blanket Investigation

Grades: 1st Grade, Kindergarten
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Only do this once you have completed Activity 1 and learnt about 2D shapes and their properties. Make grandma a patchwork blanket by putting the shape into the patches. You must fill the patches (squares) with the following 2D shapes: circles, semi-circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and pentagons. GOLDEN RULE: The number of slides of the shapes in each row ↔ must add up to EXACTLY 9. E.g. square (4 sides) + triangle (3 sides) + semi-circle (2 sides) = 9 sides in total. Challenge: Each row has to be a different combination of shapes e.g. you can’t have square, semi-circle, triangle and then triangle, semi-circle, square because it is still the same combination just in a different order. (You can now also use a hexagon for the challenge rule if you wish.) If you need more of any of the shapes click on them, press the 3 dots ... and press DUPLICATE to make more.
