Time to spread some good cheer around campus with your new language skills! ASSIGNMENT: Create a video selfie about your FAVORITE TEACHER. Keep in mind --- 1. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE before you meet with your teacher. 2. Remember to coordinate time with your teacher so that you can record with them. You might need to do this with them during lunch or before/after school... 3. They may not know what you are saying about them.... TELL THEM! ... This is encouraging to them and it will put a smile on their face!.... And what if they do know Spanish? How cool would it be if they spoke some Spanish in your video? 4. This activity is DUE BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR WINTER BREAK. 5. And don't forget ... Have fun with this project!
I have had a lot of success with this assignment. I don't let them do the video about me (they smile when I tell them that this project is really about their "SECOND" favorite teacher). Each year I get some incredibly creative entries from students... and it really helped promote our Spanish class.... Other teachers were able to discover and appreciate what we do in our language classes and I discovered lots and lots of teachers who secretly knew some Spanish. NOTE: While I did originally create this activity for my level one Spanish students, level 2 students could potentially create a similar video using the past tense about a favorite teacher they had last year. This is also an activity that can be done in any language class (French, Italian, etc). The timing is kind of special (before Winter Break)... it creates a lot of positive energy and SUPER QUICK AND EASY TO GRADE with the rubric...
