Student Instructions

Thankfully, Claire was wearing her safety helmet during the biggest accident in the history of Napville school. But why should you wear a safety helmet while riding a bike, playing football, or skydiving? Each of you will be given an egg to represent a head. Your task is to create something to protect the head in the event of an accident. Everyone will be given a plastic zip top bag to represent the plastic outer layer of the helmet (and collect any goo!), but you must choose what is actually protecting the head inside the plastic. We will then drop our protected eggs from the top of the slide to see if your design works. Slide 1 Research - Click the link to watch how bicycle helmets are made. Slide 2 Materials - Use the pen to select your materials and tabulate the cost. Slide 3 Plan - pen Draw a design for your helmet. label Labels are very helpful. Slide 4 Prototype - Use the photo to take a picture of your actual design on your egg. Slide 5 Testing - Use the photo to add a picture of your egg after being dropped from the top of the slide. Slide 6 Reflection - label mic or video What worked well? What would you do differently? Slide 7 Conclusion - label mic or video Why should you wear a helmet?
