Kelly was studying shapes today. Then she started to notice some rectangles when she looked around the room. The more she looked, the more rectangles she found!

How could you get started?
You might want to draw to help you keep track of the rectangles that you find. You can trace the rectangles with your finger, too.
Look for smaller rectangles that are put together to make a larger rectangle.
Can you put together two rectangles to make a larger rectangle? Three rectangles?
Remember, rectangles come in different shapes and sizes.

Math at Home activities include a variety of math routines that invite students to engage in meaningful mathematical problem solving and discourse. Math at Home activities are provided by The Math Learning Center with support from the Maier Math Foundation. MATH IN OUR WORLD Math in Our World activities invite students to solve problems about math in our homes and the world around them. These problems feature glimpses into other families’ lives. Many of the problem situations can be extended. Students can take it to the next level by writing and solving their own problems about the situation.
