Student Instructions

Have you ever wondered how popcorn grows? Here is a chance for you to try and grow your own popcorn! Collect your materials- you will need: popcorn kernels (seeds), a sandwich bag, a paper towel and some water. Directions: dampen the paper towel with the water, add 10 kernels of popcorn to the damp paper towel, put the paper towel with the popcorn on it, into the sandwich bag. Seal the bag and tape it to a sunny window. Watch it to see the popcorn start to grow! Please go to the template and drawing draw your completed bag in your window or photo take a photo. Record mic your voice and tell me about your work! Once you have roots growing down and sprouts growing up, remove the plant and plant it in some dirt in a tall pot or outside. Please continue to let me know how it's growing!

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

The paper towel needs to be damp, not soaking wet- if it's too wet, the kernels will grow mold. If the paper towel dries out while you are waiting for the popcorn to grow, open the bag and dampen it again. Depending how warm it is out and if it is sunny outside, it could take a week or so to grown.
