"Piranha Fish Tank! Volume Activity": Combining Prisms and Finding Volume

Grades: 5th Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

Your job will be to create a fish tank for the piranha you see. The fish is only about 5 inches long. Your piranha tank will need to have two parts (so you'll need to have two rectangular prisms put together). First, you can build a model with the cubes (each cube will represent a CUBIC FOOT). Then you can find the volume--MAKE SURE YOU LABEL IT with a three as the exponent. When you're done, you can take a picture of the cube model, draw what the fish tank will look like, or you can use the isometric drawing tool online and take a screenshot of it (use the Seesaw drawing tool to show volume measurements and some artistic designs). Lastly, explain how you found the volume of your piranha fish tank using the audio function. You can show/explain the equation you used to find the total volume of your fish tank.
