Wind-powered Delivery Design Challenge (one week activity)

Grades: 5th Grade, 4th Grade, 3rd Grade
Subjects: Science, STEAM

Student Instructions

In this design challenge, you will create wind-powered contraptions to transport a load. In the video it shows using dog treats as your load, but you can use just about any small object. Materials All kinds of items can be used to construct a wind-powered vehicle. Use whatever materials you have on hand! Before you start hunting for materials around your house, it’s helpful to consider the goals of your design challenge. Think about what qualities you want your contraption to have, and what you might use to create them. For an additional challenge, try to build your wind-powered devise using only recycled materials. 1. Click add. 2. Watch video link on first page. 3. Read and follow directions carefully. This is a multi-day project so quality work is expected. DO NOT RUSH THROUGH IN A SINGLE DAY! 4. Develop a plan for your devise and share it on page 2. You can record mic or write it on a note note. 5. Gather your materials and log them on page 3. As you try and then make revisions to your devise be sure to write down any new or changed materials. 6. On page 4 brainstorm and write down situations where remote delivery might be necessary. 7. On page 5 attach photos photo or videos video to show your progress with this challenge​. Add additional pages if needed. 8. Page 6 Extensions: Test your devise on a bumpy terrain. Record a video video to show how it went.​ 9. Page 7 Add your own extension challenge for your device. Tell what it is and how your device handled it.​
