For this task, you will choose which creation story about volcanoes you would like to learn more about. 1) Vulcan was the Roman god of fire, a blacksmith whose forge was said to be located under the island of Vulcano near Sicily and after whom ‘volcano’ was named. 2) Plato’s legend of the lost world of Atlantis – a mysterious island shaken by violent earthquakes and giant waves that disappeared beneath the ocean. 3) Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes was believed to live in the active volcano called Kilauea. 4) Popocatépetl: a volcano named after an Aztec warrior who fell in love with the Emperor’s daughter.
